How incredible a writing inspiration is your own body? The body has long been a subject for writers – and rightly so – as everything we experience moves through the extraordinary filter that is ‘body’. How can we use our bodies as a tool for writing?

Discover how your relationship with your body affects your writing life. Do you have a body part that you despise? Have you ever thought about writing a letter to your elbow? Have you ever felt like your body was giving you messages for a new character in a story or a stanza in a poem? How does your body feel after an acceptance or a rejection? How can you use this positive and/or negative energy to strengthen your writing?

In Write the Body Right you will learn how to use your body as an instrument of inspiration and an incredible world of possibility for your writing. Teachers’ Vanessa Shields and Luciana Rosu-Sieza will lead you inside the beautiful place that is your body in this three-hour workshop. Consider how we think about, talk about and show our bodies to the world. How does social media affect our relationship with our bodies? Explore how self-esteem and body image can motivate or deteriorate the power in our writing lives. “The body is a vessel in the world,” says Rosu-Sieza, “how do we feel being in our body – that we’ve inherited and can control to a certain degree?” The power of your mind-body connection can translate into creative ‘acts’ of writing that is empowering and productive. Learn how to write the body right!
