Our next edition of the Poetry of the Masters series adds music to its repertoire!
In Poetry of the Masters – Singer/Songwriters, writers will dive ears and hearts into the world of music that changes the world. Studying and responding to lyrics written by the world’s finest musicians, writers will engage in the lyrics as ‘poetry’ as well as music. Discovering song origins, the connection to lyrics and social context, and how the oratory elevation of music can lift a message off the page, writers will experience the magic of poetry as songs.
Writers do not need to have any musical background to take this class. This class is about lyric and song appreciation, inspiration and response. In discussing the connections between lyrics and poetry, songwriter’s motivations and the stories behind the music, writers will write poetry in response to the extraordinary songs we’ll listen to.
Special guest singer/songwriters will join us in conversation and share their writing processes as well as respond to the music we will study in the class. Listening to live music is also a possibility!
