Poetry of the Masters – Love Poetry

Teacher: Vanessa Shields

We cannot live without love – and the poets are our guides through the wild, painful, playful and magical world that is love. In this five-week class, we will study eight poets who have written extraordinary love poetry. Discover poets from the far past and the powerful present whose poetry has made love dance off the page.

The intention of this writing class is to discover how love is a constant character, voice, player in the world of poetry. By studying a diverse group of poets and their exceptional experiences with love, we will broaden our own craft as writers of love poetry. Love poetry extends into every facet of the human experience so we will study a diverse collection of poetry that exemplifies the different types of love.

In this class, writers will:

  • Read poetry
  • Critique poetry
  • Write poetry using prompts
  • Read poetry out loud
  • Critique poetry

Open to adult writers only. No poetry writing experience necessary.
